Current Archaeology" series Panel discussion Catholic Academy on the occasion of the current exhibition "Urformen. Ice Age Art of Europe" at the archaeological museum "Colombischlössle", which runs until 8 March

From the beginning of prehistoric times, humans have created objects that go beyond the purely functional and functional. In addition to cave paintings, small three-dimensional figures of people or animals have come down to us, which are presented in the current exhibition "Urformen. Ice Age Art of Europe" at the archaeological museum "Colombischlössle". But is this already "art" in the sense of an aesthetic representation that aims to be more than a mere reproduction of the visible? Why have people always transformed what constitutes their living environment into artifacts? What did they want to achieve with them, what were the motives for producing such things - and what actually constitutes (contemporary) art today?
